Parent Email List TEAM Treasurer Semester 1 TEAM Events - Information for Parent Volunteers Hospitality Advisory Snacks Other Events When can you expect to be contacted? Parent Coordinators: Dianna Richardson, Gayle Black Parents volunteer to bring snacks and drinks for 115 people every Wednesday morning. Advisory is mandatory for all students at Paly. Many advisories, including TEAM’s, elect to have snack brought in as a special treat for students. Snacks can include breakfast or brunch items that are easy to divide, are not too messy and do not require refrigeration or much preparation. Donuts, bagels, muffins, breads, crackers, cheese and fruit have been popular in the past. Juices are best when served in their individual containers. Snacks can be delivered to the main office in the Tower Building, labeled as TEAM snack, before 9:30 on Wednesday mornings. Lucinda Abbott will contact you with further information if necessary. TEAM Jeopardy occurs on the minimum day, Friday, before Winter Break (12/18). Snacks such as the ones described above will suffice. They should be delivered to the Haymarket Theater by 10:00 am. If you are a volunteer for TEAM Jeopardy, you will be contacted with more information. TEAM speeches happen on a Friday in June (6/4). We will create our own schedule to accommodate 5 speech sessions; what this means is that our lunch will not coincide with Paly's normal lunch time. We would like to provide students with a pizza lunch and will need parents to bring food and set up/clean up the picnic area while teachers are evaluating speeches. The kids are involved in removing non-natives and planting natives. Parents will help chaperon this. Yosemite When can you expect to be contacted? Parent Coordinator: Dan Dairaghi, Mitch Zenger Parents have numerous duties while in Yosemite that help the teachers keep everyone safe and happy. You will receive a packet of the information you need to know at our chaperon meeting on Monday, November 9 (one week before we leave!). This information will include maps, daily schedules for kids, and chaperon duty schedules. You will be contacted by parent coordinator if you will be joining us in Yosemite. You will be contacted by a parent coordinator when more information is available. Semester 2 TEAM Events - Information for Parent Volunteers The TEAM Garden, advisory snack, and restoration activities will continue from the first semester. Romeo & Juliet Performances When can you expect to be contacted? Parent Coordinator: Carrie Hechtman Parent mentors might be needed to help students prepare their scenes. Parents will be invited to watch the performances and the post-performance discussion. Monterey Bay Aquarium/Cannery Row Parent Coordinator: Chan Li Parent volunteers are needed to drive to Monterey and/or chaperon small groups (hiking groups from Yosemite). In each group, there will be a teacher and a parent chaperon to accompany ~12 students. Half of TEAM students will go on a self-led scavenger hunt through Cannery Row while the other half is exploring the aquarium. After lunch, the halves switch activities. Parents will need to bring their own lunches (as will students). We also need parents to provide water and snacks for students. Merced Family-Owned, Organic Dairy Farm Teacher Coordinator: Ms. Hori TEAM students will travel to a family-owned dairy farm in the Central Valley to learn about the operation of a dairy farm and the interdependence of natural resources. Students will meet local students from Livingston High School and share information about their communities with one another. We are hoping to continue this trip in the future with these students as leaders so that they learn how to plan a field trip that is both exciting and meaningful for the high school age group. Students on this trip are encouraged to explore various environmental and political issues that threaten the land and natural resources. All Quiet on the Paly Front Parent Coordinator: Carol Sexton, Susan McCarty The WWI simulation that was once a glorified water balloon fight will now be a capture-the-flag game played between History and English classes. Details are to come. Seaside Camping/Kayaking Trip When can you expect to be contacted? Student Coordinators & Teacher Mentors: (TBA) Ms. Hori, Ms. Shaw Parents are needed to chaperon on this exciting weekend trip. You will be driving students to Point Lobos State Reserve on a Saturday, and if you are needed, you will camp out with us at Seaside Camping Resort, just south of Santa Cruz. We’ll need your help supervising students, but the seniors are the ones in charge! Seniors provide the food and organize the entire trip. On Sunday, we kayak at Elk Horn Slough. We return to Paly in the late afternoon/evening. TEAM Speeches When can you expect to be contacted? Teacher Coordinators: Denise Shaw, Sima Thomas Several parents will be needed as mentors to a small group of approximately 5 students each. Mentors will need to attend 2 advisory sessions and be available via email or phone to their group for the four weeks we will be working on speeches. The role of the mentor varies for each student, but we'd like our volunteers to commit to their duties, regardless of whether or not students reach out for help. Ideally, parent volunteers are resourceful, organized, and interested in giving feedback after the final performances. You will be contacted by Denise Shaw and/or the parent coordinator with more details if you have volunteered to be a mentor. TEAM Celebration When can you expect to be contacted? Parent Coordinator: Carol Sexton, Susan McCarty Parents of all TEAM students, and the students themselves, will attend this memorable event. TEAM families will enjoy a potluck picnic and socialize; afterwards, students are recognized for their academic achievements in their TEAM classes. Families A-G will bring salads/appetizers, H-Q will bring dinner items, and R-Z will bring dessert. End of the Year Student Party When can you expect to be contacted? Parent Coordinator: Avelyn Welczer This event is for students only. It's their last chance to hang out and sign TEAM memory books. Parents are needed to bring food/drinks, but it depends on the venue that the coordinators decide. More information is to come.
